Hi,

My ISP required us to move to a password protected SMTP mail server and as a result it has broken all of the forms on our site. the error message reports "Mailbox unavailable. No such user here". I am using Form Master version 1.6.5. This matter is very urgent!

Also, I found a similar post in the board regarding this matter (see below), but your recommned fix is impossible. That is, I can't simply put "localhost" in our DNN site's SMTP server field under Host settings. A specific host with username and password is required.

Earlier Post on this Board regarding matter:

whenever I use a "from" address for form results or autoresponder that is different from the email address I use as email on host (crystaltechl, I receive:

Mailbox unavailable. The server response was:  No such user here

at the top of the form (I guess DNN is generating this?)

Seems like some sort of smart thing on the receiving email server that denies all mail where the from address is spoofed in this way.
Is there any way around this?

Hi,

Some servers don't allow anonymous smtp, you need to configure simple smtp with a user name (a email address registered with the same domain) and password.

I think this will make you clear

Will,

First things which need to be established are:
1. Can you send a Test email from Host - Host Settings?
2. Can you get a Password remider from your site?

Send Test Code works, but not the Retrieve Password function.

I just did another test. If I use an email within the domain (member) I don't get the error message. So it's definitely the SMTP authentication problem. Any recommendations on how to fix it?

Thanks,

Will

Gennerally either the FROM address or the TO: addresss need to have an account on the SMTP Server otherwise the server will consider it a Relay attempt and reject the message. I don't think there are any ways around this.

Form Master 2008 handles this by having a ReplyTo: field which allows you to set the FROM: address to the same as the host settings but when a user clicks on Reply in an email client the ReplyTo: is used. Unfortunatly 1.6.5 does not include this functionality.

OK. Didn't know about the upgrade. Can I simply install it over my existing forms without destroying them?

Thanks,

Yes you can upgrade. You should also get some kind of discount at SnowCovered if you login as the same user who purchased 1.6.x.

The upgrade will help but you can't get around the rules of your SMTP server.
